Timmy's Lake

Timmy's Lake is the largest lake at the De Karperhoeve estate and about 15 acres in size. In the winter of 2020, no expenses were spared to improve the lake and organise a netting. The results were spectacular: the largest carp weighed nearly 58lb and the high average weight of apprrox. 25lb was promising! Next to the good size of the fish, we were very impressed by the looks of the fish. From large and heavy-built common carp to the most beautifully scaled mirror carp that look as if they were drawn by Van Gogh himself. During the netting we removed all bream. The owner Timmy takes great care of stocking the lake, ensuring a lovely and exciting carp stock for all anglers coming to fish the lake. 

The stock
The angling pressure on the lake has been very high over the last years. The current stock of carp has grown quite good over the last decades due to an abundance of natural food sources such as bloodworms. In the winter of 2019 / 2020 we have made significant investments in the lake, including a stocking of 166 common carp and 2 mirror carp in January 2020 and a stocking of 45 beautifully scaled mirror carp, 1 ghost carp and 4 common carp in February 2020. We now estimate the carp stock at around 700 pieces, of which about 100x 35lb+, +/- 10 fish over 40lb and 1x 50lb+. In addition to the 'normal' carp and some koi, there are also about 130 grass carp swimming on the lake to prevent weed growth as well as possible. This in combination with the bait of the anglers is a perfect diet for the carp. 

The facilities
On the domain, you will find a nice tavern which offers space for showers, toilets (separate ladies' and men's toilets), tackle shop, charging points and reception area. The toilet facilities are open 24 hours a day, the shower facilities are open only between 09:00 and 17:00 each day.. In front of the tavern, you will find a guarded parking place where you can safely park your car after unloading the material on the site, or you can keep your car parked at your swim. Each swim features a 220V European power plug suitable to charge your mobile phone, tablet, baitboat battery etc., but it's NOT suitable for larger items such as fridges coffee machines etc..
On swim 1 you’ll find a 2-person cabin with 2 single beds (you’ve to bring your own duvet cover) and electricity. 

The lake and its surroundings
The estate De Karperhoeve is located next to the river 'De Nete' and the highway A13, just next to the town of Oosterlo and the large city of Geel (Belgium). With short driving distances from the ports of Calais, Dunkerque, Knokke, Oostende and Den Helder, it is a perfect destination for UK carp anglers. At the lake, good knowledge about the depths and lake features is quite important. As the lake was originally a swamp, please prepare yourself for fish at a soft and muddy bottom. It really improves your fishing to adjust your terminal tackle to this situation. Also, please take your time to learn all about your swim... there are definitely hard patches and depth differences to be found at each swim. 
On-site, you will be greeted by the friendly owner Timmy. We recommend you to take their advice regarding tactics, baits, hotspots and set-ups, they know their lakes very well... it will definitely help you to catch more!

Maximum three carp rods per angler, and four carp rods maximum in total for swim 1
No braided mainlines, leadcore and leaders. 'Lead-free' leaders such as FreeFall, SubMerge & KlingOn are allowed
The use of antiseptic treatment is obligatory with each catch
Solar unhookingmats, weighslings and landingnets are supplied on site at arrival (a caution fee of € 50,- is required). It's not allowed to bring your own
Each swim is fitted with a weigh pole
No keepsacks
No hooks larger then size 4, micro-barbed hooks only
Fixed-rigs are not allowed. Use safetyrigs. Please ensure that the lead can slide over all knots (f.e. when using a shock leader). Inline leads and safety clips are allowed
The owner and bailliff reserve the right to check your material
Bait boats are allowed, but please use them sensibly and with respect to other anglers.
Please keep a bucket of water at hand to keep the fish wet at the unhooking mat, and to rinse your unhooking mat after use to prevent cross-contamination from parasites
Please keep noise such as radios to an acceptable level
Rods must not be left unattended when lines are in the water
BBQ's are allowed, but no open fires
Please keep your swim clean, use the bins provided for litter. Please separate the glass from the other waste
Swimming is not allowed
Children are under the sole responsibility of their parents or tutor
We cannot be held responsible for any accidents or thefts at the lake
Marking or mutilation of the fish is strictly forbidden. Offenders will be prosecuted
Only particles bought on site are allowed, we supply a full range of particles onsite
Dogs are allowed
The use of drugs and (extensive) alcohol is not allowed
The estate has a secure parking
It is allowed to park at your swim, but your car must remain on the swim (unless you go shopping)
Tuesday is the 'day off' for Timmy. You can use the shower in the morning and meals will be served as usual
Rowing boats are allowed at your own risk and peril. The use of a life jacket is compulsory
