Description
Cooper’s Lake was opened in 2020 on De Karperhoeve estate and it is about 1 hectare in size. In the winter of 2019/2020, two beautiful log cabins with covered terraces were place on opposite points of the lake. The lake is an elongated shape about 175 meters long and 40 meters wide, long enough that each of the swims has a lot of privacy. The log cabins are equipped with electricity and are the perfect accommodation for a fishing holiday with a bit of comfort. The log cabin on swim 1 is a short distance from the facilities and is perfect for the fisherman who like to stay close to the sanitary facilities. Cooper’s Lake was netted in the winter of 2018/2019 and then repopulated with a diverse and interesting carp stock. De Karperhoeve is located along the Nete river and the A13 highway, next to the village of Oosterlo in the municipality of Geel. This special location is a short travel distance for English carp anglers, making it an ideal destination for a weekend or midweek session. Please note: Coopers Lake is located relatively close to the A13 highway and you can experience noise pollution at this location. Fishing at Cooper’s Lake can be as complex or simple as you wish to make it, but a good knowledge of soil structures will come in handy. The lakes at De Karperhoeve have been excavated from a swampy area, meaning that the lake bottom tends to be very soft. It is therefore wise to take this into account when planning your fishing tactics. Light lead, a longer rig, chod and zig rigs are an excellent choice on this lake. Though the majority of the lake bottom is soft, there are occasional hard plateaus. On the side from swim 2, the water is somewhat deeper than the side with swim 1, take the time to get to know your swim. The owner of De Karperhoeve, Timmy, and his team on site are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They are very familiar with all of the lakes on the estate and have significant carp angling experience. Do not hesitate to ask for advice regarding your choice of bait and material, as well as info about the lakes. Their knowledge will aid you in your hunt for the big fish! Please note that the swims have all been made with gravel and it is wise to use a rod pod at this location. The Stock Cooper’s Lake has an excellent carp stock and can prove itself to be a real run water at times. The largest carp in the lake currently weighs around 20kg (released in November 2019), and there are 5 other carp in the lake weighing 15kg+. The lake contains around 150 carp and 2 big sturgeon, meaning that action is virtually guaranteed for our guests on this lake! There is also a nice stock of small Gibel carp in the lake and you are more than welcome to bring your feeder rod with you as long as you use enough strong material to safely land a regular carp should you catch one on that rod. It is important to think about your bait choices on this lake. The original fish stock has grown well due to the abundance of natural food, especially insects such as red mosquito larvae. The average weight of the carp stock is around 8 kg, with a 50/50 ratio of common and mirror carp. Many of the mirror carp are beautifully scaled and dark in colour, serious beauties to catch. The facilities De Karperhoeve facilities include a charming tavern which houses showers, toilets (separate for ladies and gentlemen), a tackle shop, charging points, and a reception area. The toilet facilities are open 24 hours a day, the shower facilities are open only between 09:00 and 17:00 each day. There is a 2-person log cabin on each of the swims and each cabin is outfitted with 2 single beds (please bring your own linens) and electricity. You may also use the petroleum heater at an additional cost. The cabin has a dining table and 4 chairs under the terrace. The sanitary facilities are approximately 100 meters from swim 1 and 250 meters from swim 2. Should you wish, you may also set up your own bivvy next to the cabin, allowing the accommodation of 2 non-anglers in the cabin and 2 anglers in bivvies. There is a maximum allowance of 4 guests on Coopers Lake; 2 anglers and 2 non-anglers. You may park your car beside the swim. The log cabins are located at opposite ends of the lake, allowing our guests to enjoy their space and privacy while enjoying a relaxing fishing holiday.
