Gio's Lake

Gio’s Lake at the De Karperhoeve-estate in Belgium has been first opened for carp fishing in 2020 and covers roughly 1,5 acres. A nice 4-person Chalet has been placed directly at the swim, from which you can fish the entire lake with 2 anglers. The margins are overgrown with trees and bushes, guaranteeing plenty of privacy and a nice look of the lake. The toilet- and shower facilities can be found at the main reception area at approx. 500 yards of the lake. De Karperhoeve is located along the Nete river and the A13 highway, next to the village of Oosterlo in the municipality of Geel. This special location is a short travel distance for English carp anglers, making it an ideal destination for a weekend or midweek session.

Fishing Gio’s Lake can be as complex as you like to make it yourselves… but a good knowledge of the bottom structure and depths is recommended. As the lakes are located in a former swamp, the bottom is normally quite soft. We recommend to adjust your rigs and system to this. Light leads, longer rigs or chods and zigs are a perfect method to present your hook baits on top of the soft bottom. There are also some harder gravel patches spread around the lake. Gio’s Lake is quite shallow, but we’ve created several deeper holes and canals around the margins where the fish love to feed. In the summer period there can be weed growth at the lake, although there’s some big grass carp present to reduce the weed growth.

Only 1 double swim has been created at the lake, so that you rent the lake on an exclusive basis. The Chalet has been nicely renovated and features electricity: the perfect spot for a comfortable fishing holiday. Gio’s Lake is a nice and challenging lake that’s perfect to fish with some friends of family members!
The owner of De Karperhoeve, Timmy, and his team on site are extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They are very familiar with all of the lakes on the estate and have significant carp angling experience. Do not hesitate to ask for advice regarding your choice of bait and material, as well as info about the lakes. Their knowledge will aid you in your hunt for the big fish! Please note that the swim has been made with gravel and it is wise to use a rod pod at this location. 

The stock
Gio’s Lake holds an exceptional carp stock and can be seen as a carp lake where you have the chance to catch a very large carp and also have the chance to catch some lovely scaley mirror carp. The record carp is currently 45lb+ (stocked in November 2019) and there are 3 known carp over 45lb in total. These are 2 mirror carp and 1 common carp. Also, there are 4 known carp over 35lb and several large grass carp as well. The remainder of the carp stock are some common crop and also approx. 75 scaley mirror carp. These beauties were stocked around 5-15lb in the winter of 2019/2020. We expect them to grow a lot in the coming years due to the large quantities of natural food and angler’s bait!

The facilities
De Karperhoeve facilities include a charming tavern which houses showers, toilets (separate for ladies and gentlemen), a tackle shop, charging points, and a reception area. The toilet facilities are open 24 hours a day, the shower facilities are open only between 09:00 and 17:00 each day. There is a 4-person Chalet on the swim that is outfitted with 4 single beds (please bring your own linens) and electricity. You may also use the heater at an additional cost. There’s also a dining table and 4 chairs at the swim. You may park your car beside the swim and if you want, you can place your bivvies as well on the swim in front of the Chalet. As Gio’s Lake is only rented out on exclusive, you will have plenty of privacy.

Maximum four carp rods in total on the lake
No braided mainlines, leadcore and leaders. 'Lead-free' leaders such as FreeFall, SubMerge & KlingOn are allowed
The use of antiseptic treatment is obligatory with each catch
Solar unhookingmats, weighslings and landingnets are supplied on site at arrival (a caution fee of € 50,- is required). It's not allowed to bring your own
The swim is fitted with a weigh pole
No keepsacks
No hooks larger then size 4, micro-barbed hooks only
Fixed-rigs are not allowed. Use safetyrigs. Please ensure that the lead can slide over all knots (f.e. when using a shock leader). Inline leads and safety clips are allowed
The owner and bailiff reserve the right to check your material
Bait boats are allowed, but please use them sensibly
Please keep a bucket of water at hand to keep the fish wet at the unhooking mat, and to rinse your unhooking mat after use to prevent cross-contamination from parasites
Please keep noise such as radios to an acceptable level
Rods must not be left unattended when lines are in the water
BBQ's are allowed, but no open fires
Please keep your swim clean, use the bins provided for litter. Please separate the glass from the other waste
Swimming is not allowed
Children are under the sole responsibility of their parents or tutor
We cannot be held responsible for any accidents or thefts at the lake
Marking or mutilation of the fish is strictly forbidden. Offenders will be prosecuted
Only particles bought on site are allowed, we supply a full range of particles onsite
Dogs are allowed
The use of drugs and (extensive) alcohol is not allowed
The estate has a secure parking
It is allowed to park at your swim, but your car must remain on the swim (unless you go shopping)
Tuesday is the 'day off' for Timmy. You can use the shower in the morning and meals will be served as usual
Rowing boats are allowed at your own risk and peril. The use of a life jacket is compulsory
In case you break any of the rules, you'll get a yellow card. At the second yellow card, you'll get a red card and will be asked to leave De Karperhoeve without a right for refund
