Description

Carplantis is a quarry of about 50 years old, it was created by sand extraction for the construction of the N33 road in 1960, has water depths of over 14 meters (44ft) with a very diverse bottom profile. In the marginal zones there are many reeds present and some weed but in fewer quantities than the reeds. The entire lake is tree lined with numbers of large Oak, and Birch trees, making the water very sheltered.

A typical sandpit is relatively poor in nutrients, however Carplantis contains large numbers of small native crayfish (these cause little or no trouble when fishing), Swan Mussels, Triangle and Zebra mussels, snails and water fleas. The lake is fed by groundwater from underground wells and rainwater. The water level is stable with only a difference of up to 30cm (1ft) between summer and winter.

The bottom is relatively hard in the shallower zones and becomes softer in the deeper areas. The bottom color is ranging from a dark yellow on the hard areas to a dark grey / green on the softer parts. Good research and the pluming of the fishing spots are essential to get the best out of the swims at Carplantis.

The carp stock of Carplantis is exceptional. The average weight of carp is 35lbs+, with a large number of fish over forty pounds. The biggest carp to date is captured (July 2020) weighed 71lb 4oz (32,4kg).

The carp are hand selected and bred specifically for fisheries. The origin of the carp is therefore 100% known, and supplied by the company Carpfarm.nl. All carp are registered and documented, on the basis of this data, the health and growth of the fish is closely monitored.

Carplantis has four double swims which are all accessible by car. The swims are between 60m2 and 110m2. Each swim is made up of a thin layer of gravel (2 inches) and underneath is yellow sand. Ideal for tent pegs and bank sticks. Also, all the swims are equipped with a drainage system which ensures that the area remains dry even in the most severe rain. Boots and welly’s can stay at home for that matter. Extra long bivie pegs are recommended.

The fishable stretch of water associated with each swim is marked with permanent markers, which are plotted using GPS to enable the water to be divided equally over the four swims as honestly as possible.

Fishing at close range in front of your swim can be rewarding

Carplantis is no water for the novice carp angler. The great depths and capricious character of the water does require some experience. Carplantis is certainly not a so-called "runs water." It is difficult to give an average because it is fishing and can be as productive or as difficult as the fish make it, but an expectation of between five and fifteen runs per swim for a week is reasonable. Of course you can have a big hit, the probability of a very busy week is definitely present, by contrast, the high average weight, the chances of catching a big carp is always present.
Carplantis is located in the beautiful tranquil landscape of Drenthe in the midst of the meadows in the immediate vicinity of the village of Rolde. It is easily accessible via major roads A28 and N33. The travel time from Calais is about 5 hours. In the village of Rolde, which is about 3 minutes away by car from the lake, there is an Albert Heijn (supermarket) open 7 days a week and also a take away chinese/snackbar and a grill/kebab/pizza place (the last one delivers to the lake!). At 1.5km as the crow flies there is also the holiday / Villa Park “Hof van Saksen”.

Rules

No fish are to be taken off site or out of your swim under ANY circumstances. Drug and Alcohol abuse will not be tolerated, those found intoxicated will be asked to leave. We wish to record the growth of every carp so please photo both sides of every fish and record the capture on the catch report forms provided. There should be no reason to cut back any vegetation, if something is in your way call us and we will cut it away for you. Car Parks have been created close to each swim to hide your cars from view thus creating the most ‘natural’ landscape possible. Please keep your cars in the car parks once your gear has been dropped off at your swim. Anglers must leave by 10am on Friday morning and new customers must not arrive before 12.00, gates will be locked. The draw will be at 13.00 after everyone has a chance to look around. The draw will be hosted by the bailiff. No Tiger nuts or Peanuts allowed, other particles if prepared right are ok to use. Dogs are only allowed when discussed prior to booking. To stop disease Unhooking Matts, Landing Nets, Weight Slings, Water Buckets and Carp Care Kits are provided, do not bring your own! Make sure all fins are flat against body before lifting fish and always carry fish back to the water in a weigh sling. If a fish is damaged use the carp care kits on the body and mouth as shown. No carp sacks are allowed on site, if you are found with one you may be asked to leave! So do not bring any. Micro barbed hooks only, no smaller then size 6, this is to reduce mouth damage and allows a snagged fish to escape. Barbless hooks not allowed, they cut like a knife when playing fish. No Long Curved Shank hooks, Korda Crank, Fox series 5, Long Shank Nailer etc, they cause too much mouth damage in the wrong hands. No Ronny Rigs, 360 rigs or multi rigs allowed, they cause to much damage. Use any lead system you like providing the fish can free itself from the lead if the line breaks. Braided reel line is NOT allowed nor are shock leaders of any material, braided, Flouro or Mono Leadcore/unleaded/freefall leaders max. 60cm. To maintain swim boundaries a map has been created, please keep within your boundaries. Also Permanent markers are placed to show your boundaries, do not move them or you may be asked to leave. Remote controlled boats are allowed until the moment they cause problems. The use of boats is allowed. The use of a boat is at your own risk. Make sure it is a safe boat to use, the lake has depths up to 45ft so life vest must be worn when in the boat at all times. Boats may not be used at night under any circumstances, this is for your safety. Please agree times of usage with your neighbor to minimize disturbance and so maximize action for everyone. We want everyone to have a great holiday so please keep music to a very low level and be aware your voices travel in this quiet part of the countryside. Complaints will be dealt with swiftly!
