Lac de la Grange

The 6.5 acre lake which is situated next to the accommodation, has been here since pre-Napoleonic times and is set within our private grounds, surrounded by fields and woodland. It is naturally spring fed providing high quality oxygenated water.

A dam sits along the western end of the lake where the water is at it's deepest, a maximum of 8m. You can fish in a designated swim along the dam.
At the east end there are two islands surrounded by streams which feed into the lake

The north bank (farthest from the accommodationbut still only a short walk) is flat providing easy access to the three main swims with purpose built platforms and huts providing shelter, storage and a place to sleep when night fishing. There are some other swims along this bank.

On the south side the bank slopes quite sharply, here there is one swim on top of the bank, right next to the accommodation and another in a clearing toward the more shallow end of the lake where, on summer days, fish bask protected by the exposed tree roots

You don’t have to be a fisherman to enjoy this picturesque lake. The setting is beautiful and provides a peaceful place for bird/nature watching and if you fancy a walk the 1km track leads all the way around the lake.

No licences are required, night fishing is permitted and the five main swims have wooden huts providing shelter from the weather and to sleep in when night fishing so no bivvies required.

The lake contains in the region of 70 quality carp including 3 or 4 wild carp (often mistaken for grass carp). The largest carp caught to date (2019 season) are in the mid 40lbs region and with our current feeding regime these fish should be hitting the high 40's by next season.

There are also many tench, up to 5lbs, along with roach, rudd, specimen perch, a few pike and other small silver fish.

There is a stone tackle hut next to the lake which can be used for storage. Here you will also find a fridge for storing bait. 

We can arrange for exclusive use of the lake for your party during your stay for a small extra charge.

Hookbait, groundbait and rigs are available for purchase on site at very reasonable prices. Bed chairs and  a baitboat are available to hire.

The luxury gîte accommodation, with games room, private swimming pool, sauna & hot tub, sits within a beautiful 19 acre estate  encompassing our historic 6 acre private fishing lake, which is situated next to the gite and is for the use of guests only.

Lac de la Grange is the ultimate in peace & tranquillity lying near to the ancient town of Rochechouart where you can find many local interest shops, restaurants & a chateau.

Our gîte is the perfect, spacious holiday 'home from home' and is ideal for large families and groups of friends.

We warmly welcome families, anglers, couples and small groups

General:
Maximum 4 anglers at any one time
Maximum 3 rods per angler
No rods to be left unattended
Children under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times
No fires or BBQs around the lake
No swimming
No drunken or abusive behaviour toward other anglers, the bailiff or local residents
No litter - please use bins provided
Always kneel when handling fish eg. for photographs
In order to prevent injury to fish please remove watches, bracelets, rings and any sharp objects on clothing before handling fish.
We prefer that you bring your own landing nets which we will disinfect prior to use. However these can be supplied by us on request at a small charge
Weighing slings & unhooking mats will be supplied by us
Equipment provided by us is for use in our lake only
Some areas are not for fishing – please adhere to the no fishing signs
The lake is very old and has some man made features, such as the dam and some stone
banksides. Please do not scramble down steep banks to reach the lake

Fishing:
No baits to be used other than those provided by us (pre-ordering is advisable)
Barbless hooks only (no micro or flattened barbs)
No nuts
No fixed leads
No live baiting
No leadcore
Minimum breaking strain line 12lbs
No sacking of fish except for fish recovery period & no keep nets
No braided mainline
In an effort to ensure fish safety in the event of snapped mainline the bailiff may check your end
