Description

Poppy's Lake is our 'runs water' where we maintain a very high stock of hard fighting carp offering the holiday angler the opportunity to enjoy a regular bend in the rod with carp from high singles through to 45lb or so The average size is in the region of 17lb-50lb but with bigger fish coming through constantly. In 2021 we had several different 50's banked and a new lake record of 62lb. The fish here are growing at an incredible rate and after the drain down and netting due to take place in December 2021 we will be able to adjust stock levels to ensure continued progress.

Poppy's is a perfect little venue for up to 3 lads to enjoy a tranquil, stress free week in France with the chance of catching a good many carp with the added bonus of carp of 50lb and 60lb to add a little spice to the holiday.

There are no nuisance species with the lake holding just carp, roach, pike plus the occasional tench. During the 2016 season catches of up to 200 carp was achieved, even when the anglers decided to fish just days.

The heavy stock of carp in Poppy's means that you cannot over feed the lake when fishing. In fact, the heavier you bait the more consistent the sport will be. You can catch on just single baits without any free offerings however to really make the best of your holiday it is better to fish over a good bed of pellet with a little hemp and a good helping of boilies, both whole and crushed. Distance casting is not necessary and if you would like to use a bait boat then there are charging points in the toilet block (just 5 mins from the lake) and we also have bait boats for hire.

It is a very quiet venue and a real sun trap where other than song birds and the drone of dragonflies the only other noise to be heard may be a distant tractor.
In the spring there is always a cuckoo to be heard around the lake and the summer months see kingfishers and even the occasional roe deer can be seen coming the the lake edge for a drink. Badgers and foxes also live close by in our woodland and will often be seen or heard in the nights or early mornings.

Rules

1) No bent or long shank hooks. Crushed barbs at all times. 2) No more than 3 rods to be used at any time. 3) No leaders of any type - tubing must be used. 4) No shelf life boilies, nuts or particles to be used (the exception is a little hemp or maize). 5) No plastic baits. 6) No braid mainline nor uncoated braid hooklinks (stripping the last couple of inches is acceptable). 7) Under no circumstances should tree's, shrubbery, plants be destroyed, removed or damaged. 8) Treat your surroundings, wildlife and fellow anglers with the greatest of respect please. 9) All carp photographs are to be taken in the water using the sling and floating mat as supplied. 10) No carp are to be sacked under any circumstances nor retained for more than the time to unhook and weigh and photograph. 11) No leads above 3oz in weight to be used. 12) No rigs where a swivel is used on the hook. This is due to reports from other lakes of swivels catching in the mesh of the net resulting in torn mouths of struggling carp. 13) No Zig rigs....... they do not work here and can result in foul hooked fish. 14) Carp should be handled with care, never laying them on their stomach and returned to the water asap. In the interest of fish care we ask that carp are always lifted from the water by means of the supplied sling. With large carp the process of just rolling up the net and taking them from the water can cause damage where undue pressure is put on either fins or internal organs.
