Dordogne – Secteur Libournais
One of the night carp routes of the Gironde (33) is the Dordogne - Libournais sector, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The Dordogne is a French watercourse which originates in Puy de Sancy (1,885 m) , highest point of the Massif Central, in the chain of the Dore mountains. It merges with the Garonne to form the Gironde estuary which leads to the Atlantic Ocean after having crossed the Dordogne department and part of the Gironde department, in the Aquitaine Basin. From the point of view of environments and species, the Dordogne basin has a rich, diverse and particularly well-preserved heritage. The presence of several emblematic species testifies to this: European sturgeon, salmon, otter… The Dordogne is a natural site registered with Natura 2000 and its entire watershed is classified as a biosphere reserve by UNESCO. .
