La Gartempe - Sector Montmorillon - is a French river flowing in the departments of Creuse (23), Haute-Vienne (87), Vienne (86), Indre (36) and Indre- et-Loire (37) in the New Aquitaine and Center-Val de Loire regions. With a course of a length of 204 kilometers, the Gartempe is a river fed by abundant rainfall in the southern region of its basin, like its neighbors in the southwestern region of the Loire basin, from massifs of Limousin or its foothills. La Gartempe is in first category upstream of the Pont des Bonshommes in the town of Bessines-sur-Gartempe (Haute-Vienne) and in second category on the rest of its route. It has a rich fish diversity in white fish, predators (pike, black bass, pike perch, perch, catfish), common carp of intermediate size and we note the presence also of lampreys and shad on its course.
