Verdon Lake
The Lac du Verdon is an artificial lake located in the towns of La Tesssoualle and St Pierre des Echaubrognes, in the departments of Deux-Sèvres (79) and Maine-et-Loire (49) in the New Aquitaine and Pays de the Loire, in the North-West of France. The Lac du Verdon has an area of 280 hectares and was built on the course of the Moine river in order to secure the drinking water supply for the entire Choletais agglomeration and to support the low water level of the Moine. At the heart of a natural, wild and preserved environment, Lake Verdon is a site classified as a nature reserve for its exceptional flora and fauna. It is a unique and unmissable ornithological place to observe birds with in particular more than 200 species visible throughout the year. It is very popular with nature lovers, hikers, water sports enthusiasts and also fishermen. It offers a great fish diversity in white fish (bleak, roach, bream, rudd), predators (zander, pike, perch, black bass and catfish) and a good population of common carp and medium-sized mirrors with beautiful subjects reaching 15 kg.
