Lac de Castillon

Castillon lake

The large reservoir of Castillon is located near Castellane and in the municipalities of Saint André Les Alpes and Saint Julien du Verdon, in the department of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (04), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d 'Azure. The dam is located in the natural constriction of the Cheiron hill with the Verdon river running through its center. The dam, located on limestone rock, is 95 meters high and 200 meters wide at the crest. It is spread over more than 12 kilometers long in a valley which goes from Saint André du Verdon to the cove of Cheiron. The Castillon reservoir is home to a high density of fish and is renowned for its high population of pike-perch which finds clear and limpid waters there. Forage fish occupy a large place in this lake, but one of them is particularly popular with fish and fish: it is the gudgeon. For years, with the help of the biotope, the populations of leather, common and mirror carp have developed in such a way that they have become an object of regrouping for carp anglers. Fairly high in altitude (880 meters), it is advisable to reserve fishing for it between April and October to succeed. Pretty, well-scaled mirror carp are to be taken in a dream setting. A magical site, turquoise water and a high fish density make it a lake very popular with nature lovers, tourists and fishermen.
