Serre-Ponçon lake
The lake of Serre-Ponçon is an artificial lake at the limit of the departments of Hautes-Alpes (05) and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence (04), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. It was created by the establishment of a dam on the Durance, two kilometers downstream from its confluence with the Ubay. With a water reserve of 1270 million m³ and an area of 2800 ha, Lake Serre-Ponçon is the second largest artificial reservoir in Europe. This little-known mountain lake is located at an altitude of 780 meters, 20 km long for a maximum depth of 100 meters. The lake is home to a rich and varied fauna. Salmonids, Esocidae, Percidae, Cyprinidae are well represented and can be fished from the shore or from a boat. Trout and Pike, regularly cited in the press, impress with their weight and size. Perch, carp, bleak, roach, gudgeon… abound there. Also, another emblematic species, the Arctic Char, can sometimes be caught. Recently, the Whitefish (also known as Féra, Pallée, Lavaret), a traditional species from large alpine lakes such as Lake Geneva, Bourget and Lake Annecy, etc., has been captured regularly. This tremendous potential therefore invites fishermen, amateurs or experienced, children or adults, to share with family or friends, unforgettable adventures… along the water.
