The lake of the Vieilles Forges
The Vieilles Forges lake, also called Witaker lake or "Petit Saint Cassien" is located in the town of Renwez, in the Ardennes department (08), in the Champagne-Ardennes region. Small pond, several centuries ago, this lake grew after the successive construction of forges, followed by that of a dam in 1927. This allowed this lake of the Ardennes to reach a not insignificant area 150 hectares in 1949. Located at an altitude of 350 meters, the site is drowned in the middle of forests and green meadows offering many stations open to night fishing (only the sectors located between the dam and the campsite are prohibited from fishing. night). The growth of the specimens is ensured by the presence of dresseines (freshwater mussels) and crayfish, added to the absence of emptying. The lake is shallow with approximately 7 meters not far from the structure and an average of close to 3 meters. This magnificent lake attracts the greatest specialists from England, Germany, Belgium…
