La Vienne – Secteur Dangé St Romain
The Vienne - Dangé St Romain Sector - is a French river crossing the departments of Haute-Vienne (87), Vienne (86), Creuse (23), Corrèze (19), Charente (16 ), as well as Indre-et-Loire (37). With a length of 372 kilometers, the Vienne is one of the main tributaries of the Loire, along with the Allier and the Cher, and is the largest in terms of flow. It takes its source in Corrèze, on the Millevaches plateau, from four to five small streams, at the foot of Mount Audouze, at an altitude of between 860 and 895 meters, between the municipalities of Saint-Setiers and Peyrelevade. It flows downstream into the Loire at Candes-Saint-Martin. Flowing between the Millevaches plateau and the Touraine plain, it has the particularity of crossing extremely diverse landscapes, like most of the rivers originating from the west of the Massif Central. It conceals a remarkable fauna and flora and has a high fish density of predators (pike, pike perch, perch, catfish glean), white fish and wild carp very combative in view of the powerful flow of this river. It is also home to a large population of salmonids upstream (trout and grayling). The Vienne is a delight for nature lovers and offers great fishing opportunities on its course for beginners and more experienced fishermen.
