Frances' largest natural freshwater lake
Lake Hourtin-Carcans is the largest natural freshwater lake in France located in Gironde (33), in the South West of France, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine region. It stretches from north to south, parallel to the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, over a length of 18 kilometers for a maximum width of 5 kilometers. At the heart of a wooded natural environment, with wild marshes and white sand dunes, covering an area of nearly 5,800 hectares , it has significant fish reserves. It is home to a rich fish diversity with a large predator population (pike, perch, black bass, large pike-perch and catfish), a high population of white fish (bleak, roach, rudd, tench, bream) and a remarkable herd. of common carp and mirrors of intermediate size with subjects of 20 kg. Very popular with tourists, nature lovers and fishermen for its trophy fish and its wild side. It is a fishing paradise.
