Le Cher – Secteur Vallenay
The Cher - Sector Vallenay - is a French river flowing in the center of France. The Cher crosses the departments of Creuse, Puy-de-Dôme, Allier, Cher, Indre, Loir-et-Cher and Indre-et-Loire. It originates from the town of Mérinchal in the department of Creuse and flows into the Loire at Villandry, in Indre-et-Loire. The important towns crossed are Montluçon, Vierzon and Tours. With a length of 368 kilometers, the Cher is a very interesting wild river for its natural setting offering varied landscapes all along its course. It is very popular due to its accessibility and its animal and plant wealth. It is a river full of fish and very popular with fishermen and nature lovers. The Cher fish population is dominated by calm water species (bleak, bream, roach and tench). We note to a lesser extent whitewater fish such as river barbel, chub, gudgeon, hotus or spirlins. It has a magnificent population of combative but difficult to capture common and mirror carps. With regard to predators: common perch and catfish are very well represented as well as the presence of pike which has seen in recent years, its population is clearly increasing. The Cher is a migratory axis more particularly for sea trout, eels, shads, lampreys and mules.
