Le petit Rhône – Parcours Fourques (Arles)
The Arles carp course is located on the Petit Rhône, near the town of Fourques (Arles), in the Gard department (30), in the Occitanie region. The Petit-Rhône is one of the two arms of the Rhône delta, which marks the western limit of the Camargue and the Rhône delta. The Petit Rhône is recognized as a site of great importance for the ascent of migrating fish, perfectly complementary to the Grand Rhône. The bed of the watercourse is however marked out by an important system of almost continuous dikes from Arles to the sea. The downstream part, entirely included in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône and component of the whole Camargue, is characterized by less artificial banks, a better connection between aquatic and terrestrial environments and, as a result, by habitats favorable to many species (in particular the beaver and the pond turtle). It offers great fish wealth with the presence of many species of white fish, predators and cyprinids. But also migratory fish which are obliged to move between fresh water and the sea in order to carry out their biological cycle such as the great shad, the shad feint, the sea lamprey, the river lamprey, the sturgeon or even eel. The fishing pressure is still relatively low and the carp are not overly suspicious. The main difficulty of fishing lies in the frequent and sometimes very violent wind as well as the current which is quite strong especially at the beginning of the season. But it is all these random conditions that make the charm of river fishing ... The carp are cut to fight against the current and offer magnificent fights.
