Rivière de La Lys
The Lys is a river located in the Pas-de-Calais (62) department, in the Hauts de France region. The Lys is a river in northern France and Belgium, a tributary on the left bank of the Scheldt, which it joins in Ghent. Most of its course is now channeled. It originates in Lisbourg near Fruges, France, at an altitude of 114.7 meters. The first town it crosses is Aire-sur-la-Lys, in the Pas-de-Calais department and flows into the Scheldt, after a 195-kilometer route, including 85 kilometers in France and 24.6 kilometers in Belgium. The Lys valley is a biological corridor of major importance for the migrations of birds and aquatic organisms in particular. It is home to a rich diversity of white fish (bream, rudd, roach, crucian, tench), predators (pike, pike perch, perch) and intermediate-sized common and mirror carp. Note also the presence of migratory fish such as eel.
