Le Canal de Calais – Secteur Calais

The Calais Canal - Sector Calais - is a French canal located in the Pas-de-Calais department (62), in the Hauts de France region. The Calais Canal - Calais Sector - is one of the branches that connect the Hauts-de-France waterways to the English Channel / North Sea. It goes from Ruminghem to Calais via Ardres. With a length of 30 kilometers, it is mainly fed by a diversion of the Aa river (a small French coastal river in northern France). Cut in reaches, it can have different and variable fish populations depending on the time or year. Indeed, carp can change reaches through the locks. It is home to a rich diversity of white fish (bream, rudd, roach, crucian, tench), predators (pike, pike perch, perch) and intermediate-sized common and mirror carps. Note also the presence of migratory fish such as eel. The bottoms are particularly flat and edge fishing should be favored on the one hand because most of the natural food is concentrated there, and on the other hand when navigation is regular, it is better to avoid fishing. in the center of the canal. The nature of the canal bottoms will depend on the substrate in which it was dug, but be aware that, except recent cleaning, mud may be present over most of the width. The natural food is mainly composed of larvae and insects, although anodont mussels can also be found on some and some American crayfish when there are grassland spots that should be fished as a priority. The uniformity of the banks is actually an asset in the sense that any anomaly or structure along the banks attracts carp and should guide you in choosing a position.
