La Seille – Secteur Louhans
The Seille - Louhans sector - is a river that flows in the departments of Jura (39) and Saône-et-Loire (71), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Born in the Jura, La Seille is a tributary of the Saône river on the left bank, joining it on the territory of the municipality of La Truchère, in Saône-et-Loire. La Seille, with a course of 100 kilometers, is in its upper part a quiet river with trout which sometimes overflows from its bed in spring. Its lower course, also subject to significant flooding, is navigable over 39 kilometers from Louhans to La Truchère. One can then meet there catfish which colonize the river since the sixties and which sometimes reach an impressive size. The river is reputed to have offered the first catches of large catfish in France, in the 1980s. The Seille is a very pleasant river, ideal for river cruises. It is wide, its current is weak and the sinuosity of its course as well as the beauty of its landscapes make its navigation very peaceful. It offers good fishing conditions and has a good fish density of white fish (bleak, roach, bream), predators (pikeperch, pike, perch, trout, catfish) and common carp of intermediate size.
