La Loire – Secteur Chambilly

The Loire - Chambilly sector - is the longest river in France, with a length of 1006 kilometers, it crosses the department of Saône-et-Loire (71), in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its source is on the southern slope of Mount Gerbier-de-Jonc, to the south-east of the Massif Central, in the department of Ardèche (07). Its mouth to the Atlantic Ocean is in the Loire-Atlantique department (44), in the west of the Pays de la Loire region. Its course takes place entirely in France. Despite several dams and important lateral flood protection, the Loire is often presented as the "only great wild river" surviving in France: it is also a "kingdom" of sumptuous landscapes and very rich natural environments. The entire river has been listed as a site of Community importance in the European Natura 2000 network under the two European directives "Birds" and "Habitats", with a view to the protection of its wild flora and fauna and its biodiversity. , its ecosystems as well as places of passage for migratory species. It has a high fish density of white fish, predators (pike, pike perch, perch, catfish) and a large population of wild common and mirror carps of intermediate size, combative but difficult to catch. The Loire is very popular with lovers of wild nature, walkers and fishermen.
