Le Canal de Briare
The Briare Canal is a waterway crossing the departments of Loiret (45) and Yonne (89), in the Center-Val-De-Loire and Bourgogne-Franche-Comté regions. The Briare canal is one of the oldest canals in France and the first of the “split reach canal” type. With its 54 kilometers and 38 locks, it connects the Loing canal, from the hamlet of Buges in the Loiret (not far from Montargis), to the Loire and to the lateral canal à la Loire à Briare. It allows navigation to link the rivers of Loire and Seine. It is the prototype of all modern channels. It is a very pleasant canal in the center of hilly and rural landscapes, very popular with tourists, nature lovers and fishermen. It offers a good fish population of predators (pike, pike perch, perch), white fish (roach, rudd, bream) and common carp of intermediate size.
