Le Canal de Bourgogne
The Burgundy Canal is a small gauge waterway of 242 kilometers, located in the department of Yonne (89) in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comte region, France. It connects the Seine basin with the Rhône basin. The Burgundy Canal follows a north-west / south-east axis with a significant hook north-east for about thirty kilometers before arriving in Dijon along the Ouche. Its starting point is in Migennes, a town located on the Yonne, a tributary of the Seine; its point of arrival is at Saint-Jean-de-Losne on the Saône, a tributary of the Rhône. The canal has 189 locks, 113 of which are located on the side of the Yonne and 76 on the side of the Saône. Formerly used for the transport of goods, it is nowadays open from April to the end of October and is exclusively intended for pleasure boating. It is a very bucolic canal in the center of hilly and rural landscapes, very popular with tourists, nature lovers and fishermen. It offers a good fish density in predators (pike, pike perch, perch), in white fish (roach, rudd, bream) and in common carp and mirrors of intermediate size with beautiful subjects that can reach 15 kg.
