Estate Lake Irai

Located 1,5-hour west from Paris in the Normandy region, you will find Estate Lake. This beautiful 6 swim lake of 15 acres is tucked away in nature and surrounded by a 2.500-acre forest! Because of this environment, Estate Lake is home to diverse wildlife, and you might be able to spot some deer during your stay! So are you looking for a carp fishing trip near Calais or Caen, with a good chance of action with carp up to 74lb? Estate Lake is the right venue for you!

Lake
Estate Lake is situated one and a half hours from Paris and one hour from Versailles and Le Mans. The national park La Perche is just 10 minutes away. So besides fishing it is easy to make a trip with your travel mates somewhere else. Although we expect that for most guests it is hard to leave this beautiful domain. At Estate lake you feel like you have been transported to another world. The angler is surrounded by a big castle, royal gardens and the long lake in the valley, it is absolutely fabulous. After being  used as a fish farm for centuries , The Carp Specialist is very proud to welcome the carp anglers on Estate Lake!
The nature on the property of Estate Lake is splendid. The 6 swims are situated at the North side of the lake, when you look to the other side of the lake you see beautiful lilypads and extensive forest. Behind swim 3 you will find the beautiful castle! All together Estate Lake feels like stepping into a fairy tale. The lake is stream fed through l’Avre, a stream that runs into the lake at swim 6 and leaves at swim 1 (the deep dike side). Also in summer this stream provides fresh water whereby the oxygen in the water is high. Therefore the water temperature stays lower and the fish still keep feeding even on hot days. In spring and autumn the constant supply of fresh water has large benefits as well, with the carp feeding earlier in the beginning of year and later in autumn than normal. The bottom structure is particularly light mud. It is possible to find a small difference in depth where the old river flows through the lake.

Fish
The original carp stock at Estate lake existed mainly of original French Royals, like most French lakes. In December 2013, 196 common and mirror carp with an average weight of 28lb, 2 koi, 6 sturgeons, and 1 catfish of 180 cm have been added to this original stock. A year later 7 big carp between 46 and 55lb were added. In December 2016, we've stocked 2 carp (a mirror and a common carp) of 55lb, and about 30 carp of 22-26lb. In February 2017 we've stocked a lovely mirror of exactly 60lb. In November 2019 a further 70 carp between 20 and 30lb have been introduced as well. These stockings have made the carp stock very interesting, you can expect action and chances to catch a heavy one! The average weight of the caught carp will be around the 25lb mark and the current record mirror carp weighed in at 70.5lb at its latest capture in November 2019. In August 2020, the largest common carp of the lake was caught at 74lb. The carp feel most safe in the lily pads on the opposite side of the lake. Most of the carp are caught there, but don’t underestimate your own bank and the open part of the lake. Because of the large carp stock we recommend you to bring plenty of bait and to feed regularly. The carp still react well on simple techniques and action is pretty much guaranteed!

Accommodation
The facilities on Estate Lake are like you would expect on this domain, the standards are very high. Therefore this lake is especially suitable for ladies, non-anglers and guest who appreciate excellent facilities. The facilities are directly located at the lakeside, at the dike side where you will find swim 1. The accommodations include 3 separated showers, 3 toilets, 2 sinks, and a kitchen with a fridge, freezer and power stations. Wi-Fi is available at every swim and all swims are accessible by car as well. After unloading your gear, you can put your car in the car park.

Gite (4-persons)

Directly besides the facilities on 50 meters of swim 1 you will find the 4-persons Gite. The 4-persons Gite ‘Edmond’ includes:

Living room with a 2-persons convertible couch, HIFI set, DVD player, and satellite TV
Fully furnished kitchen with microwave and freezer
Master bedroom with 2 persons bed (baby bed is available on request)
Bathroom with shower, toilet, washing machine, dryer
Everything is accommodated with floor heating
Gite (6-persons)

Directly at the dike side on 100 meters of swim 1 you will find the 6-persons Gite. The 6-persons Gite ‘Fishermen’ includes:

Living room two big sofa’s, HIFI set, DVD player, and satellite TV
Fully furnished kitchen with large dining table, microwave and freezer
3 x 2 persons bed on the first floor (baby bed is available on request)
Toilet, washing machine, dryer on the first floor
Luxurious bathroom with bath, shower and toilet
Everything is accommodated with heating

Local area
In addition, you can find a typical village few miles away, presenting its weekly market, offering a rich variety of regional products, confirming the great reputation of Normandy (Cider, terrines, different kind of cheese, sausage, Caen’s tripe and our famous…frogs !!)
Take time to discover the historical heritage of Normandy. Here, you are in the heart of Operation Neptune, also known as the Normandy landing, during World War II. The venue of the largest seaborne invasion in history offers museums presenting D-Day, Caen’s memorial and important beaches.
Also, at Normandy, you can see Mont Saint Michel, the Etretat’s cliffs, the castle of William the Conqueror, Deauville and Trouville cities… we understand that during your fishing sessions, you might not be able to visit all these places. Never mind!! It will be a pleasure to welcome you again another time!!.

Maximum three carp rods per angler
Keep sacks are forbidden
Unhooking mats and weigh slings are supplied on site at arrival
The use of antiseptic treatment is obligatory with each catch
Leadcore is not allowed
Barbless or micro barb hooks are obligatory
No hooks larger than size 1
No bent-hook rigs
Fixed-rigs are not allowed. Use safety rigs. Please ensure that the lead can slide over all knots (f.e. when using a shock leader). Inline leads and safety clips are allowed
Please keep a bucket of water at hand to keep the fish wet at the unhooking mat, and to rinse your unhooking mat after use to prevent cross-contamination from parasites
Marking or mutilation on the fish is strongly prohibited. Breaking this rule will lead to prosecution
Rods must not be left unattended
No braided mainlines
The use of rowing boats is allowed
Swimming is not allowed
Children are under the sole responsibility of their parents or tutor
Please keep noise such as radios to an acceptable level
Selfmade particles are not allowed on Estate Lake. Commercial particles are permitted
Boillies with conservatives are not allowed. Only bait without conservatives is permitted
Please keep your swim clean, use the bins provided for litter
