Gallien’s Reach is a 50 year old stream and spring fed lake, containing mirror carp, common carp and ghost koi. Carp to 55lb (24.95kg). It has quality water all year and is on a clay subsoil. 

The lake is 3 acres in size with depths ranging up to five feet. There are 2 islands roughly central and the western end of the lake is dammed.

It has a hard bottom in some places and silty base in others which will make for challenging angling.

There is some weed cover and lilies to fish to as well.

There are 3 swims available around the lake allowing 3 anglers at any one time. Landing nets, unhooking mats and weighing slings are provided.  

Prior to 2020, this water had never been fished (except by family) and there were mirror and common carp in the lake when we arrived in December 2018.   We enhanced the stock in February 2019 after netting the lake in December to remove excess silver fish.

In December 2020 we netted to check on the progress and health of our fish. Happily they are growing really well, maintaining good health and nice proportions. During this netting we removed nearly 1 ton of silver fish, decreasing the biomass and allowing our fish to feed and grow.

We increased our stock again in January, February, May and November 2020 and January 2021. Over 65 mirror carp and 13 common carp have been added ranging from 6kg (14lb) to 18kg (40lb), with the average weight now around 10kg (22lb).   We also added some young ghost koi in May 2020 to grow on, some of their growth rates have been amazing.

Additionally, there are zander, pike, perch, tench, roach and rudd in the lake.

The fish spawned in May 2019, April 2020 and April 2021 and have been feeding well since.

Over the winter of 2020 into 2021 Jon began the process of removing silt from the lake to provide increased water depth and quality. In the process finding the original river course. We have also been planting reeds, lilies and other aquatic plants to enhance the bio-diversity within the lake.

Number of anglers on the lake limited to 3 (excluding child under 12 with parent). Maximum of 3 rods per angler, 1 line, 1 hook
Children are not to be left unattended around the lake and are to be supervised at all times
No rods to be left unattended. If you need to go further than 30m then remove your hooks and baits from the water. Even if you are using receivers
No sacking of fish
No swimming, wading is encouraged only to release fish
Only on-site landing nets, slings and mats/cradles to be used, all provided upon arrival
Minimum line 15lb/7kg breakage
No braid as main line
No lead core or leaders to be used
Only tungsten tubing to be used – minimum 18″ (46cm). If you’re unsure it will be available on site and instructions on how to use it
No long shank, nailer, bent, circle hooks
Micro barb hooks only
No fixed leads, all rigs must be safety rigs, ie eject the lead. If in doubt, please ask
All rigs will be inspected
No shelf life boilies. No plastic baits. No nuts. No maggots. Particle to be purchased on site only to ensure correct preparation.
We have our own quality proven bait on site at competitive prices, saving you money and time. You are welcome to bring your own fresh or fresh frozen bait – please advise us of the brand name. The health of our fish and lake is very important to us so no shelf-life boilies or tiger nuts please.
Keep cradles and mats wet as in the sun they can become very hot
Carp care is paramount . Please treat any hook holes or wounds with a carp care product (Steri Seven or similar). This will be available on site
Our boat is only to be used for freeing up snagged line and fish
Please photograph all carp on both sides and weigh before returning to water
Do not stand up with fish to be photographed, return fish to the water as soon as possible
All fish over 40lb (18kg) – get in the water to take photographs, and return the fish whilst in the water to ensure the safety of the fish
Please send all photographs and weights of fish caught to us as this allows us to keep accurate records of fish health and weight. We’ll set up a WhatsApp group with you for this
We have a bait boat for hire. Please advise if you wish to bring your own and it mush be thoroughly cleaned before arrival
No marking, disfiguring or damaging of the fish in any way (you will be asked to leave the site without refund or compensation)
No removing fish or introducing fish
