The Loire - Saint-Agnan sector - is the longest river in France, with a length of 1006 kilometers, it crosses the department of Saône-et-Loire (71), in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its source is on the southern slope of Mont Gerbier-de-Jonc, to the south-east of the Massif Central, in the department of Ardèche (07). Its mouth to the Atlantic Ocean is in the Loire-Atlantique department (44), in the west of the Pays de la Loire region. Its course takes place entirely in France. The entire river has been listed as a site of Community importance in the European Natura 2000 network under the two European directives "Birds" and "Habitats", with a view to the protection of its wild flora and fauna and its biodiversity. , its ecosystems as well as places of passage for migratory species. It has a high piscicultural density of white fish, predators (pike, pike perch, perch, catfish) and a large population of wild common and mirror carps of intermediate size, combative but difficult to catch. The Loire is very popular with lovers of wild nature, walkers and fishermen.
