Fishing in Slovakia
Even though Slovakia is not a very large country, it offers plenty of possibilities for fishing. On the territory of Slovakia 900 fishing reserves are available. The most frequently occurring fish in the Slovak rivers, lakes and other water areas is the carp.
Licences & Regulations
In order to abide by Slovakian fishing regulations, all anglers must obtain and possess 2 separate fishing licenses.
The state license is available in information centers and local fishing shops. In addition to the state license, a local fishing permit must be purchased. The local permit is specific to the region or fishery which will be accessed. These licenses are available in local fishing shops and through local fishing association representatives.
If you are not a member of Slovak Fishing Association (Slovensky rybarsky zvaz), you need to make sure to obtain these below in the following order prior to fishing
1. STATE LICENSE
You may get the state licenses in local fishing shops, or info centers and you will be required to provide following personal details
- Name and Surname
- Address
- Date of Birth
- Passport/ID number (the one you will have with you during your stay)
State license are not expensive and you can typically expect to pay only a few euros to obtain one.
2. LOCAL FISHING PERMIT (for fishery you want to fish)
Usually sold by local fishing tackle shops or sale persons from the local fishing association.
The local fishing permit price for non-member is currently €20,00 per day (2021 - all state fisheries)
(We recommend to buy the permits at the day of fishing depending on weather and water conditions)
Seasons
Fishing times are reliant on the weather (a lot of lakes freeze over during the winter months) and on the rules of the lakes themselves. We recommend that you confirm the dates you wish to visit with the lake directly or the agents you are booking your trip with to ensure that you are able to fish when you arrive.
